Book Review: The Complete Leaky Gut Health & Diet Guide by Dr. Makoto Trotter and Doug Cook

I just finished reading The Complete Leaky Gut Health & Diet Guide by Dr. Makoto Trotter and Doug Cook, and I must say, it’s one of the best books I’ve read on the topic.

Who would benefit from it?

  • Anyone suffering from digestive issues
  • Anyone suffering from skin, hormonal, neurological, and reproductive issues. You’d think leaky gut would only affect the digestive system, but it goes far beyond that.
  • Health professionals who want to figure out how to help their patients more effectively.

What do I like specifically about The Complete Leaky Gut Health & Diet Guide?

  • Physiology is complex. Dr. Makoto Trotter and Doug Cook fill the book with analogies to help make the complex simple. So even if physiology is way over your head, the way it’s explained in this book will make sense to you.
  • It has pictures that explain physiology. Great for visual learners.
  • It explains very clearly how leaky gut syndrome affects seemingly unrelated systems, like your immune system, reproductive, hormonal, and more.
  • A lot of books written by natural health authors completely poo-poo conventional treatments, like pharmaceuticals and surgery. In here, Dr. Makoto Trotter and Doug Cook take a more rational approach. They recommend trying the safer routes first, but give specific reasons when medications and surgery make more sense. A breath of fresh air.
  • And it’s made practical with over 150 recipes. Some books tell you “you can’t have these 40 foods.” So you’re left thinking “so then, what do I eat?” The Complete Leaky Gut Health & Diet Guide doesn’t leave you hanging.

To anyone who seriously wants to understand leaky gut syndrome, I highly recommend this book.
