Bryan Walsh

Bryan Walsh is a naturopathic doctor in Maryland. I first learned about him through a video product called Fat is Not Your Fault that I first found out about in 2010. In that product, I learned about hormones, digestion, brain chemistry, and more, and how all these factors affect fat loss. It blew my mind. I was already into learning about hormones, having read books like The Hormone Diet and others, but this just took my knowledge to the next level.

Over the years, Ive gone through many of his courses, like:

  • Everything you ever wanted to know about glucose regulation
  • Everything you ever wanted to know about detoxification
  • Everything you ever wanted to know about the mitochondria
  • Metabolic fitness pro, level 1 – biochemistry
  • Functional medicine tour

and others.

What I like about him is that hes a very no-nonsense kind of doctor, because he questions a lot of the sacred cows in the industry, is heavily research focused, and has 2-4 studies to back up every point he makes, and teaches his students how to individualize every clients approach.

When other personal trainers who are my students approach me, asking what resources they should learn, Bryan Walshs material is frequently at the top of my list.

Ministry of Supply

I do a lot of public speaking engagements. In fact, you may be reading this article because you saw me do a presentation at your company. The thing is, I hate dress shirts.

  • Theyre inflexible no stretch to them, so they tear easily
  • They show sweat stains
  • Ironing them is a pain

So when I saw an ad for the Apollo shirts at the Ministry of Supply, I paid attention. They solve everything I hate about dress shirts.

Theyre:

  • Flexible. You can raise your arms all the way up, and not feel like the shirt is resisting you
  • Sweat-proof. Through some kind of technology, they figured out how to not show sweat stains.
  • Theyre wrinkle free. They come out of the drier, and theyre good to go. No ironing necessary.

My dream-come-true dress shirt. Sure, I cried a little when I saw the price (because Im a cheap bastard), converted it to Canadian Dollars, and factored in shipping and import taxes, but after I was finished crying, I ordered it, and am glad I did.

Unlike other products in this article, for which I dont earn money, for this one, I actually will save $50 if you order something over $100 through this link. But you will also save $50 .

Good Fats

You know those meal replacement bars that are just thinly disguised chocolate bars? Well, thats not Good Fats. Good fats bars are true meal replacement bars, but where theyre different than most meal replacement bars is the obvious their fat content.

One bar has 13 grams of fat, 13 grams of carbs (of which, a whopping 8 grams are fibre thats HUGE!), and 8 grams of protein.

Because of the combination of the high fat, high fibre, and the bit of protein, it makes a bar fairly filling, at only around 200 calories per bar.

And unlike most healthed up bars that have a funky taste/smell, or a weird texture, Good Fats bars are smooth. Real smooth. Like an R&B singer smooth.

Yet, unlike most bars that feel like trigger foods (like when youre done, you want more), when youre finished 1 good fats bar, youre satisfied. No additional cravings for more, that sends you down a binge.

All in all, I cant say enough good things about Good Fats bars. And no, I dont make any money for writing about Good Fats.

VegeGreens

I have a confession to make: I hate vegetables. Dont get me wrong I still eat them, because I like the effects of vegetables, but I really really really dislike the taste of vegetables. I wish I was one of those people that enjoyed vegetables, so it wouldnt be such a chore to eat them.

Well, VegeGreens to the rescue. Its essentially a powdered vegetable drink. You take a scoop, mix it up in water, and drink it down. Now, I know what youre thinking: powdered vegetables are disgusting. And yes, they sure do look disgusting. When you blend it in water, you get green water. But the taste is anything but disgusting.

There are various flavours, like orange juice, blueberry juice, pina colada, and others.

One scoop of VegeGreens is around only 40 calories, and yet, the antioxidant equivalent of 6-8 servings of veggies. It definitely doesnt have the fibre content of vegetables (only about 1 gram), which is why its a supplement, and not a replacement, but for me at least, its much more palatable than actual vegetables.

Just like Good Fats bars, I dont make any money for promoting VegeGreens.

Kashi

Kashi is a company that makes both breakfast cereals, and snack bars. But a lot of companies make breakfast cereals and snack bars. So what differentiates Kashi from others? In a word: its healthier.

Most breakfast cereals are high in sugar, low in fibre, and low in protein. So you eat them, but youre hungry again an hour later.

Kashi is the opposite low in sugar, high in fibre, and high in protein (for a cereal). Most kashi cereals have between 8-13 grams of fibre per serving. In a day, we need about 25-38 grams, so they add a good chunk to the daily requirement. Most breakfast cereals are in the 2-5 gram range. Next, the protein. Kashi has around 12 grams, compared to most breakfast cereals that are in the 1-5 gram range. Decent source. Certainly not one of the best sources of protein, like meat, fish or seafood, but certainly something.

At the other end of the spectrum we have the other hippy cereals. Sure, theyre healthy but they taste like cardboard.

With Kashi cereals and bars, you get the health of it, without sacrificing it for good taste.

Yet another product for which I dont make money for promoting.
